North Georgia Fly Fishing Opportunities Spring Creek Anglers arranges guide services at High Meadows Club and on the Soque River. Both streams are private trophy trout waters that pass through beautiful valleys with plenty of streamside vegetation. Both streams have trophy-size Rainbows and Browns and support native trout reproduction. Tickanetley Creek at High Meadows Club, with a lower daily rod fee, is a beautiful North Georgia trout stream that fishes like natural trout streams in other areas of the country. The Soque, similar in size to the Tickanetley but with less overall water to fish, is concentrated with large fish. Public Waters Fish for Free... the Chattahoochee River (Buford Dam to Hwy. 41 Bridge in Atlanta) If you want to save money and sharpen your fly fishing skills prior to chasing large Rainbows and Browns on private waters, or even wild natives in the mountains, we suggest that you try the Chattahoochee River. A fishing guide is not required! There is ample access to fish the 'Hooch. Holds mostly easy-to-catch "stockers" and a few reasonable size holdover fish. Limited Brown trout reproduction has been documented above Island Ford in low water years. True natives are virtually non-existent in the 'Hooch but we have caught and released a few native Browns over the years. In the "upper river" areas, more Browns are killed by non-catch & release anglers each year than reproduce. Predominently, the 'Hooch is hatchery supported by the Buford Trout Hatchery. A special regulation delayed harvest section that is heavily stocked between November 1 and May 14 is located from the Hwy. 41 bridge near Cumberland Mall up to Sope Creek. Easy access is available from Cochran Shoals just above I-285 down to the Hwy. 41 bridge along National Park Service controlled property. Due to very warm water conditions in the summer below Morgan Falls dam, virtually all trout can not survive the year. More about The 'Hooch Private Waters Tickanetley Creek: The Tick is a high quality trout fishery that is enjoyed by all for both it's North Georgia beauty and the way it fishes. Tickanetley Creek holds plenty of natives and a lot of large fish! It's more technical in nature than many other private trout waters in North Georgia but don't let that stop you. This is what fly fishing is all about since it is tough to see the fish and you must decide on your approach, your fly, and your presentation. We can arrange either guided or self-guided trips on this private water. Expect to fish up to two beats (1 mile of water) per day as you carefully wade this valley stream. Prolific caddis and mayfly hatches in the Spring through early Summer months. Fall and Winter fishing for large fish is tremendous on The Tick. Try your favorite streamer pattern, woolly buggers, hot pink San Juan worms, stoneflies, or a rolex. A Turck's Tarrantula will sometimes bring big fish to the surface. This private trophy trout water is managed by High Meadows Club and is the least expensive quality private trophy trout water in Georgia. Located close to Ellijay and Blue Ridge not far off Hwy. 575/515 and 52 East. Soque River: Really large fish! Running clear most of the time, the fish see you as well as you seeing the fish. However, proper presentation of the fly will bring you success. Some deep pools along with beautiful runs and pocket water. The Soque usually fishes very well and trophy fish are receptive to flies. Located near Helen on the east side of the mountains. Guided trips Only. Reliable flies that work on the Soque are: Beadhead Prince, Flashback Hares Ears, Copper Johns, stonefly patterns, and various color streamers/woolly buggers fished downstream and across. Really subtle takes when fishing nymphs almost requires using a strike indicator in some of the runs. Dry fly hatches are seldom witnessed on the Soque. If you want to catch and release really large fish, then a guided trip on the Soque is the option for you. Owner's preference is for two or more anglers and the water is not available to fish every day. Singles are accepted on occasion. |
